We can’t provide an exhaustive list of what we do, because as soon as we print what we have done, we get a call from a client giving us another doozy.  A 9-1-1 center receives mostly the same types of calls every day. But every once in a while, a call-taker will instant message their other colleagues in the center, “check out the call I just took” – and when the rest of the room has read it, you’ll hear a collective chuckle, or see disbelieving shakes of the head if it’s something not particularly funny, but pretty unusual.

So, while Zhuli handles routine matters, it also gets its share of off-the-wall requests.  Zhuli policy is that a Julie must NEVER echo a client’s request in a disbelieving manner.  “You want, what?” or “Let me make sure I have this straight, you want us to……?”  Such responses are disrespectful to our client, who is most certainly quite serious, and it wastes the client’s time.  But sometimes, being only human, we might think it.

Final note, as you peruse the list, you may think, “why do I need to call you to do that?  I can do that myself.”  Of course, everyone CAN do just about everything – but many people want to save themselves the time, frustration, and hassle.  Most people can dig a ditch, but, for various reasons, many would like someone to do that for them.  Our clients are willing to pay for the service – and the guy with the back-hoe definitely appreciates the additional business.

One of the favorite mottoes of a dispatcher in a Police call center is, “We get to tell the police where to go!”  Our clients equally appreciate the art of delegation.  That is why they call us.
